Ascona Group is a UK-based fuel retailer that started as a single petrol station in Pembrokeshire, Wales, in 2011. Under the leadership of the current CEO, Darren Briggs, it has grown rapidly and become one of the fastest-growing independent fuel retailers in the country.

The company needed a brand that could scale with their growth and look professional from the beginning. Additionally, they required a website that could be managed in-house and updated regularly without relying on external consultants for every change.

The company needed a brand that could scale with their growth and look professional from the beginning. Additionally, they required a website that could be managed in-house and updated regularly without relying on external consultants for every change.

Approach

Ascona logomark and logotype. The mark represents safety and traveling into the distance.

The Ascona brand.

The initial task was to establish a fitting brand identity. It was imperative that the brand appeared uncomplicated and uncluttered, yet also conveyed a sense of purpose that was relevant to the roadside retail industry they were entering.

My approach was to create a clear, straightforward, and uncluttered design with a high-contrast aesthetic. To distinguish the brand from its competitors in the market, we opted for a black and orange color scheme.

The site relies on content cards and boxed frames that fit the corporate aesthetic.

Corporate site, boxy but good.

The website was constructed on Webflow and utilizes Webflow collections extensively.

The design adheres to the conventional corporate aesthetic, incorporating an abundance of boxed content to enable the client's team to modify the site with ease, without risking any damage to the existing layouts.

Maps and locations.

One of the obstacles for listing the retail outlets was to include a location map featuring geo-tagged points of interest relevant to the numerous outlets managed by Ascona Group.

This objective was accomplished using Mapbox and personalized coding linked to Webflow's collection data. The outcome has been highly effective. Furthermore, the A-Z listing provides visitors with an easy-to-understand guide to the amenities available at each location.

We also designed an internal job listing tool that is integrated directly into the website, eliminating the need for external HR tools or services.

Ascona has consistently expanded its portfolio by acquiring additional ventures related to the retail outlets they own and various entrepreneurial concepts formulated by the team.

On each occasion, I have created brands that perfectly align with their requirements, resulting in remarkable success.
